Copper Sculpture
2 x 1.5 meters

This copper mobile is one in Clayton's new series focusing on installations that bring healing and harmony to both the individual and wider communities. Copper is a material that has an abundance of environmental, health and physical benefits. Clayton hopes that through the interaction with these large-scale pieces, each individual will feel a real spiritual conduction between the material and themselves.

As an essential nutrient for the body, copper helps to maintain healthy bones, blood vessels, nerves, and immune function. This metal has also been found to repel coronavirus pathogens at a faster rate than any other material at 45 minutes versus 24 hours.

The Lotus Effect, 2020
A participatory installation for times of transformation
(can be made available as an NFT)

Lotuses grow in muddy, murky waters, rise to the surface, and unfold. They bloom untainted by the muck and serve as a reminder, albeit a temporary one, that moments of beauty can emerge from the toughest conditions.

In Tibetan Buddhism this sacred symbol is associated with purity, awakening, transformation, and compassion, and it appears in works of art at the Rubin Museum.

For The Lotus Effect, Uttam Grandhi and Rubin Museum invite you to fold an origami lotus of your own and contribute it to a physical installation.

The installation will serve as a community-built symbol of gratitude for the people and things that help us get through difficult moments.

Hatchers is partnered with Fairchain, a secure, privacy-first framework that powers a more sustainable art economy for artists, galleries, and collectors.

DanceLife, 2020
HD Video, Duration: 03:31
Edition 1/10

Collaboration with Jared Hoffman
Music by Darshan Jesrani

Dancing can be uncomfortable for some but is also a place where many let go and are truly themselves – movement is, after all, one of our earliest expressions. Likewise motion capture has qualities of being ’seen’ and ‘on camera’ yet people seem to lose their inhibitions when they are immersed in it. This is one of the wonders of technology; it provides a filter that strips down our sense of reflection and allows us to be more free.

DanceLife is a compilation of documented clips from Kozak and Hoffman’s interactive motion capture installation ThirdLife. In the piece, participants are scanned using a Microsoft Kinect and projected as a new avatar. By using soft, pastel gradients and calming natural footage, Third Life seeks to envoke a ‘safe space’ where digital anxiety is reduced and the participant loses their sense of self. Film of random participants using the piece was compiled together and set to a mix of Nelson Bishop - Alice Et Les Aloes.

MARIA KOZAK

Hatchers is partnered with Fairchain, a secure, privacy-first framework that powers a more sustainable art economy for artists, galleries, and collectors.
